This Privacy Policy explains what information TechNews DevTop (tech.devtop.cc, the “Site”) collects and how it is used.
Information we collect
- Contact form. When you write to us, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you enter. To block spam we also process your IP address; it is kept only in a temporary counter that expires within an hour and is not included in your message.
- Analytics. To understand how many people visit the Site and which articles they read, we use two analytics tools: Matomo, which we host ourselves at matomo.devtop.cc, and Statcounter, a third-party service. When you load a page they record information such as the page visited, the referring page, your browser and device type, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and the time of your visit.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting server records technical data such as IP address, browser type, requested pages and time of access, for security and troubleshooting.
We do not require accounts and we do not run advertising trackers.
Cookies
Our analytics tools set cookies to tell new visitors from returning ones and to group page views into visits. Matomo uses cookies whose names begin with _pk_, kept for up to 13 months. Statcounter sets its own cookies for the same purpose. These cookies are not used for advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Site works normally without them.
How we use it
We use contact form submissions only to read and reply to your message, and analytics data only in aggregate to understand our readership and improve the Site. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information for marketing purposes.
Service providers
- Visit statistics are also processed by Statcounter, which receives your IP address and the information described above. Matomo runs on our own infrastructure, so the data it collects is not shared with a third party.
- Messages sent through the contact form are delivered by email through a transactional email provider (Maileroo).
- Article images are served from a third-party storage service (Backblaze B2). When your browser loads them, that service receives your IP address as part of the request.
- On browsers without native emoji support, emoji images may be loaded from the WordPress.org content network (s.w.org).
Retention
Contact messages are kept in our mailbox only as long as needed to handle your request. Server logs are rotated periodically.
Your choices
You can ask us to delete a message you sent, or ask what information we hold about you, through our contact form.
Children
The Site is intended for a general adult audience and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
